Summary — App Testing Instructions
1. Adding Internal Testers — add tester emails to both Google Play Console and Apple Developer accounts (one-time setup).
1. Testing Channels — Android via APK (or Google Play Internal Testing once set up) and iOS via TestFlight (requires Apple Developer account access).
2. What to Test — app design, menu items, tours/games content, and both Light and Dark mode.
3. How to Report Issues or Bugs — use the Trello board (sent via email), specify platform, add screenshots, and describe the issue in detail.
4. How to Verify Fixes — test the fix and move the card to "Done," or back to "Bugfixes to do" if unresolved.
Android and iOS devices are both needed to test each version of the app. Android is usually the first to be distributed for testing.
Once the first app builds are ready, our team will provide them for testing. Any issues, bugs, or improvement suggestions should be reported in an organized manner. The Locatify team will review your feedback and turn approved items into development tasks. This process continues, with new builds provided as fixes are completed, until you approve the app for publication.
1. Adding Internal Testers
Only email addresses added to your developer accounts will be able to test the app on their device. This setup only needs to be done once.
Google Play Console
📌 Make sure testers' devices are signed in with the same Google account added to the tester list — this is required for Android testing.
- Open your Google Play Console account.
-
Click on your app.
📌 The app must already be created in your account by the Locatify team before this step is available.
- Navigate to Test and release in the left menu, then click Internal testing.
- Click Testers, then Create email list.
- Name the list (e.g., your app's name + "testers"). You'll also see a "Locatify testers" list — this is Locatify's internal testing team, no action needed there.
- Scroll down to find the testing link — this is what you'll share with your testers list. (Our team will also send you this link by email.) The same link can be shared with everyone on the list.
Apple Developer Account
- Open your Apple Developer account.
-
Click on your app.
📌 The app must already be created by the Locatify team before this step is available.
- Click the TestFlight tab.
- In the left column, click Internal Testing.
- Add your list of internal testers.
- Share the TestFlight testing link with them.
2. Testing Channels
Android — APK Installation
APK distribution is used when the Google Developer account isn't ready yet — it lets testing begin without waiting on account access, which is why Android builds are usually the first ready for testing.
- Open the APK link directly on your Android device.
- Follow the installation instructions on screen (Android may run a security scan first).
- Install and open the app.
The app installs directly on your device, without going through the Play Store.
⚠️ Important: Before installing a new APK build, uninstall the previous version first (device menu → select the app → Uninstall) to make sure you're testing the latest version.
Google Play Internal Testing
Once your Google Developer account is set up, future builds move to Google Play Internal Testing instead:
- Locatify will send you a link to open the Android app build as an internal tester.
- Make sure your device is connected to the correct Google account (the one associated with the email address provided on the internal testing list).
- Share the link with the other internal testers.
iOS — TestFlight
iOS builds are only distributed through TestFlight. TestFlight is Apple's testing app.
- You'll receive an email invitation to test via TestFlight.
- Download the TestFlight app from the App Store, if you don't already have it.
- Open the invitation link on your iOS device and install the app through TestFlight.
- The testers from the internal tester list will also receive the link.
Future builds appear as updates within TestFlight — you'll be notified when a new version is ready.
3. What to Test
- App design — launch screen, main menu, navigation bar, colors, overall branding
- Menu items — verify each opens and functions correctly (map, tours and games...)
- Tours and games — tour points, game points, audio/images/videos/text, interactive elements, challenges and game mechanics (if applicable)
- Info Points — verify the info points are showing on the main map and in the dedicated menu item, if selected as showing in the list (if applicable)
- Light and Dark Mode (changeable in device settings) — repeat testing in both to catch display issues
4. How to Report Issues or Bugs
You'll receive access to a Trello board via email. When you find an issue:
- Create a card in the "Bugfixes to do" list.
- Specify whether it occurs on iOS, Android, or Both.
- Add screenshots or screen recordings.
- Describe the issue in detail: what happened, what you expected, and steps to reproduce it.
- Include the project URL if relevant.
The more detail you provide, the faster our developers can investigate and resolve the issue.
5. How to Verify Fixes
When a developer starts working on an issue, the card moves from "Bugfixes to do" to "In Progress." Once the fix is completed, the card moves to "To Be Verified" and you'll be notified.
At this stage:
- Install the latest build, if required.
- Test the reported issue again.
- Confirm whether it's resolved.
If fixed: Move the card to "Done."
If not fixed: Add a comment explaining the issue and move the card back to "Bugfixes to do."
