Before you begin, your Google Developer account must be created, and your app must already exist in the Google Play Console. App creation is handled by the Locatify team — reach out if this hasn't been done yet.
You'll need access to both your Google Cloud Console and Google Play Console accounts to complete this process.
Screenshots in this guide are blurred to protect account data — the layout and steps remain accurate.
A. Google Play Console
- Log in to your Google Developer account: https://play.google.com/console/
- Click on your app.
- From the left-hand menu, click Protected with Play.
- Click the dropdown under Play Store protection
5. Then under Protect app signing key, click on Manage Play app signing.
6. Once in the App signing tab, scroll down to Upload key certificate.
7. Copy the SHA-1 certificate fingerprint — it consists of numbers, capital letters, and colon symbols (:). You'll need this value for the next section, so copy it. Do not share this value with anyone.
B. Google Cloud Console
- Open your Google Cloud Console account in a new tab: https://console.cloud.google.com/. Make sure you're logged in with the same Google account linked to your app.
- Click on the project you used to create your Google Maps key (it should have the same name as your app).

- From the main left-hand menu, go to APIs & Services → Credentials.
- Find your Google Maps key under API keys.

- Click on your key to open its settings.

- Under Key restrictions → scroll down to Application restrictions, select Android apps.
- Under Android restrictions, click Add.
- Enter your package name in this format:
com.locatify.guide.appname. Replace "appname" with your actual app name — all lowercase, no spaces or special characters. - Paste the SHA-1 certificate you copied from your Google Play Console.
- Click Done.
- Under API restrictions, leave the preselected option Don't restrict key. (This setting doesn't apply in this case.)
- Click Save at the bottom of the page.

- Wait 5 minutes, then return to APIs & Services → Credentials. You should now see a green checkmark and "Android apps" listed under Restrictions.
