In your branded app, your projects can be shown as pins on a map and a grid or list type page. The grid or lists show the project categories in the template. There are two default categories already in the CMS, Tours and Treasure Hunts, and both feature their own icons. While these categories can't be edited, you can still make your own categories and choose your own icons (or skip them altogether). In this article, we're going to look at how you can use custom categories in your branded app.
Below you can see the grid page in the Locatify demo app when we're only using the default categories:
Now let's open up the CMS to see where we can make new categories. Open up a project, and go to Settings > Game/Tour Settings (game pictured below).
Click on the dropdown Section menu and select Edit.
Now click on Add Category
Insert the Alias (name visible only to you in the CMS), title (how it looks in the app), select if you want it to show up on the top of the page or not, and click on the icon to upload your own custom icon (if you skip this step, the title will show without an icon in the app) and finally scroll down and select Submit.
Now you'll see your new category in the dropdown section menu where you can select it and republish the project to make these changes visible in the app.
Now let's open up the app on our phone and see how the new category looks!
There we go! Feel free to experiment with the parent categories and icons to see what works best for your app.
