The transmitters are typically installed in the ceiling, angled down toward the exhibit, so a visitor triggers the content simply by standing in the right spot below — with the equipment staying out of sight.
How precise is it? Infrared is a line-of-sight technology, so a visitor needs to be directly in front of the exhibit for content to trigger. The detection area can be adjusted, from a narrow, focused zone to a wider one, depending on the angle the infrared device is set to, so it can be tuned to fit the exhibit and space.
Do visitors need a special device to use it? Yes. Visitors carry a small handheld device with simple play and pause buttons to receive the audio. These devices can be set to different languages, so each visitor hears the content in the language they select at the start of their visit.
Can it work with video and other multimedia, not just audio? Yes. Infrared can synchronize audio with optional video on nearby screens or monitors, so both start together automatically as a visitor arrives.
Does this solution include an app? No. Infrared is designed specifically for audio guide experiences, with optional synchronized video on screens. It doesn't use an app, so it's best suited to venues that want an audio guide (with or without video) rather than a mobile app experience.
Can it cover more than one exhibit or area? Yes. Multiple transmitters can be placed throughout a venue, each creating its own activation zone, so different exhibits trigger their own content seamlessly as visitors move around.
